Medford Real Estate
Medford, Oregon is in the heart of Southern Oregon’s agricultural area. Originally to be named Middle Ford for it’s shallow river crossing, David Loring, engineer for the Southern Pacific Rail Road, renamed the town after his hometown of Medford, Massachusetts . The railroad arrived in 1884, and the town was incorporated.
Medford is famous for pears – all sorts of varieties including Bosc, Comice, d'Anjou, Bartlett, and Winter Nellis. There are also forests and the associated timber businesses. Enjoying the great outdoors is a favorite pastime in Medford. Within an hour or so there are there are 153 stocked streams for fishing, 17 lakes, boating and fishing on the Rogue River, and hunting and camping in 56 forest camps. Not surprisingly, with so many streams, Medford also boasts five covered bridges. Snow sports, including downhill skiing, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing are not far away.
Southern Oregon University has a campus in Medford that currently offers majors in Business, Communication, Human Service, and Psychology.
The Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport is located in Medford. There are four air carriers servicing the airport, making Medford a transportation hub.
